Paprika app review (2026): cost, what's new in Paprika 4, and when an alternative fits better
By the Cado team · Updated
Short answer: Paprika Recipe Manager 3 is still one of the best recipe organizers you can buy. It costs $4.99 once on the iPhone, works offline, sorts your grocery list by aisle and holds a 4.9 average from more than 54,000 App Store ratings. The catches are that each device version is sold separately ($29.99 on the Mac), and Paprika 4, now in open beta, adds social media importing and nutrition analysis that Paprika says will need a subscription once the beta ends. If you mostly want a tidy, offline recipe box, Paprika is a great buy. If you save recipes from TikTok and Instagram and want them adjusted to a health goal, here's how Cado compares.
Disclosure: Cado makes Cado, the app compared here. Prices and ratings come from each app's US App Store page, checked November 3, 2026; what Paprika does and what's coming in Paprika 4 come from paprikaapp.com.
Cado vs Paprika
| Cado | Paprika | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Free to download. Cado Pro is $9.99/month or $59.99/year and unlocks unlimited recipe imports, AI edits and health scores | Paprika 3 is a one-time purchase: $4.99 on iPhone and iPad, $29.99 on the Mac. Each version is sold separately. The App Store also lists Paprika 4 Premium in-app purchases at $14.99 and $9.99 (discount) |
| Saving recipes | Paste or share a link from TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest or any recipe site and Cado turns it into a recipe | Paprika 3 downloads recipes from websites through its built-in browser, a Safari extension or a bookmarklet. Importing from TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube is a Paprika 4 beta feature |
| Changing a recipe | Ask Cado to change any recipe (more protein, dairy-free, less sodium) and it rewrites it and tells you what changed | You edit recipes yourself, with formatting, photos and links. Scale servings and convert between metric and imperial |
| Nutrition | Calories and macros per serving, a Cado Score from A to E for every recipe, and daily totals as you plan | Nutritional analysis from USDA ingredient data, with a nutrition label, is one of the Paprika 4 beta features |
| Meal planning | Tell Cado what the week needs and it suggests recipes that fit and puts them on your plan, or plan from your own saved recipes | Daily, weekly and monthly calendars, plus reusable menus you can drop onto any week. You choose every meal yourself |
| Grocery list | One list from the week's recipes, sorted by aisle. Send it to Instacart from the app | Smart lists that combine ingredients (1 egg + 2 eggs = 3 eggs) and sort them by aisle, with custom aisles and multiple lists. A pantry tracks what you have and when it expires |
| Cooking | Cook hands-free and ask Cado questions out loud mid-recipe | Keeps the screen on, lets you cross off ingredients and highlight the current step, and starts timers detected in the directions |
| Devices and offline | Apps for iPhone and Android | iOS, Mac, Android and Windows, synced with a free cloud sync account. All data is stored on the device, so recipes open without internet |
Pick Cado if…
- Most of the recipes you save come from TikTok, Instagram or YouTube, and you want them imported today without joining a beta
- You want every recipe scored for health, with calories and macros per serving
- You'd rather ask for a change (more protein, dairy-free, lighter on the oil) than rewrite a recipe by hand
- You want recipe suggestions for the week, not just an empty calendar to fill
- You want to cook hands-free and ask questions out loud while you cook
Pick Paprika if…
- You want to pay once for a recipe organizer and never think about a subscription (Paprika 3 still works that way)
- You need your recipes offline, or on a Mac, Windows PC or Android device as well as your phone
- You already have hundreds of recipes in Paprika, sorted into categories you rely on
- You track a pantry with expiration dates and like reusable menus for the weeks you repeat
- You're bringing recipes over from MacGourmet, MasterCook, Living Cookbook or YummySoup!, which Paprika imports directly
How to switch to Cado
- You don't have to give up Paprika to try Cado. Keep it as your archive and start with the recipes you cook most.
- For recipes you first saved from a website or a video, find the original link and copy it.
- Download Cado and paste each link into its recipe import, the same way you'd save any new recipe.
- Ask Cado to adjust anything that doesn't fit your goals, for example "more protein" or "dairy-free". It rewrites the recipe and shows what changed, with calories and macros per serving.
- Add the week's recipes to your plan and let Cado build the aisle-sorted grocery list. Send it to Instacart or take it to the store.
Questions
Is the Paprika app a one-time purchase?
Paprika Recipe Manager 3 is. The US App Store lists it at $4.99 for iPhone and iPad and $29.99 for the Mac, and Paprika says each version is sold separately. Paprika 4 is different: Paprika says its new premium features will require a subscription after the beta period.
What's new in Paprika 4?
Paprika 4 opened its beta to all current users on September 28, 2026. Paprika lists recipe scanning from photos, importing from TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube, clipboard importing, shareable cookbooks, advanced search, nutritional analysis from USDA data, family sharing, barcode scanning for the pantry, calendar feeds and an Alexa skill.
Is Paprika worth it?
For a recipe box you own, yes. It's a few dollars once, works offline, syncs across devices and is rated 4.9 from more than 54,000 App Store ratings. It's less of a fit if you want an app to suggest meals or change recipes for a health goal, because in Paprika you choose and edit everything yourself.
Can Paprika import recipes from TikTok and Instagram?
Not in Paprika 3, which downloads recipes from websites. Social media importing is one of the Paprika 4 beta features. Cado imports recipes from TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest and recipe sites today.
Does Paprika show nutrition information?
Paprika lists nutritional analysis, calculated from USDA ingredient data with a nutrition label, as a new Paprika 4 feature. Cado shows calories and macros per serving and an A to E health score on every recipe.
What is a good alternative to Paprika?
It depends on what you want to change. If you just want another offline recipe organizer, look at other one-time-purchase recipe managers. If you want recipes from social media adjusted to your goals, with a meal plan and grocery list built from them, Cado does that, free to start.
